As part of its prospective intelligence mission, the Royal Institute for Strategic Studies (IRES) organized, on April 24 and 25, 2025, a day of reflection on the future of nuclear energy in the world and in Morocco.

Bringing together a high-level panel composed of representatives from the International Atomic Energy Agency, international organizations and companies involved in nuclear energy, Moroccan ministerial departments and national institutions, as well as Moroccan and foreign experts in nuclear power, safety, and security, this meeting provided an opportunity to assess technological advances in civil nuclear energy on a global scale. It also allowed for exploration of potential synergies between nuclear energy and green hydrogen production, a review of the Kingdom’s current capacities in nuclear applications, and an examination of the main challenges ahead — whether regulatory, human, technical, or financial.

The fruitful exchanges that marked this strategic event led to the emergence of innovative ideas and strategic orientations. These were translated into concrete measures, structured as a roadmap, aimed at laying the foundations for the medium- and long-term development of a sustainable civil nuclear sector, in support of Morocco’s energy transition and the decarbonization of its economy.
