Visit of the President of The ECOWAS Commission to IRES

His Excellency Mr. Marcel Alain DE SOUZA, President of the ECOWAS Commission, accompanied by a high-level delegation was received on August 31, 2017 by Mr. Mohammed Tawfik MOULINE, Director General of the Institute.

After a presentation of the activities and missions of ECOWAS, Mr DE SOUZA outlined that the approach of Morocco's accession to ECOWAS is on the right track and will be confirmed at the next ordinary session of the Community on December 16, 2017 in Lomé.

For his part, Mr MOULINE recalled the will of the Kingdom, expressed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to join to ECOWAS, which crowns the excellent relations between the Kingdom and the countries of this community. This was followed by a presentation of IRES' main missions, the watch system and the Institute's achievements in the field of strategic studies.

Significant exchanges took place between IRES and the ECOWAS delegation, on issues related to Morocco's accession to ECOWAS and the potential contribution of the Kingdom of Morocco to the development of Africa.

At the end of this meeting, Mr Marcel DE SOUZA requested the IRES' assistance to carry out the study of the impacts, in progress, on the accession of Morocco to ECOWAS. His Excellency equally requested that the Institute, through its expertise and know-how, contribute to the implementation of a watch center within ECOWAS.
